Pasquale Maio President and Owner pasquale-headshot

Pasquale Maio is an Italian lawyer born and raised in Orria, Cilento. He moved to New York after marrying an Italian American girl he met when he was 8 years old. He grew up spending time on his grandparents farm surrounded by olive, fig, and lemon trees. Every Saturday, after school, he used to run to his grandparents farm and help them can tomoatoes, make goat cheese, sausage, olive oil and wine. Even now, after having followed his soul mate to Brooklyn, he prepares the freshly made pasta, vegetable and dessert dishes his grandmother Natalina and his mother Valeria prepared every weekend.

In December 2008 Pasquale founded a start up company, Cilento Experience, with the goal of continuing and educating others about the Cilento cultural traditions. Cilento Experience offers gastronomical tours to this unknown corner of Italy. Guests are lodged in an enchanting restored farmhouse run by the Maio family as they learn the craft of wine, oil and cheese making; partake in cooking classes where they learn how to make traditional Cilentano foods including: fusilli, gnocchi, cavatelli, struffoli and zeppole; and go on excursions to greek ruins, medieval tows and fishermans villages. The farmhouse is owned and managed by Felice, his cousin, and Anna his wife, chef and cooking instructor.

Fatte lo buono iuorno quanno puoi,… ca lu malamente, nun te manca mai– Cilentano proverb

Enjoy the good days when you can because the bad days are never missing.
